Financial Guidance Project 2014
The University of Southern California is a very competitive school. It is difficult to get into and I fear that I would not be able to keep up with the academic competition. I fear that I would not be able to pass the classes as I am used to projects compared to lectures and tests. I am scared that I will not be able to handle the large school environment considering I have been attending a small school for the past three years. I believe I would survive socially as I am a very social person. I love attending sports events and going to social parties. Socially, I think that USC would be the perfect fit for me. I want to become a sports agent, so I would use these connections to my benefit. Living in Southern California, I have visited LA many times. I love how busy the city is and even though USC is not in the best neighborhood, it is not a far drive to the city or the beach. Let alone home.
Potential Major: Communications
Communications majors have always appealed to me. I would find communications very useful because no matter what field I decide to go into, I will always have to deal with people. I think communications would be beneficial to me in so many ways. I would be able to use the skills from this major in everyday life. I could use communication skills for interviews,in the workplace, and just in my personal social life. I aspire to become a sports agent and communications would help towards that career choice. Communication is a huge part of sports agency.
UCSD is potentially the perfect fit for me. I want to attend a big school with social events and sports. UCSD is a large school that meets my social standards. Even though UCSD is not as big as USC, it might be better because I have been attending a small school. The location is perfect. I think I would live on campus because I would want to get the campus feel. UCSD is really close to my home which would make my parents very happy. I do not think UCSD would be too expensive. I think that I would be able to keep up with the academic rigor or UCSD. If I were to attend UCSD though, I would consider going into a field of science. Even though this is not my passion. I have heard that it is difficult to be accepted into UCSD as a first year student. This concerns me but I also think that I am capable of being accepted with my grades.
Potential Major: Marketing
As I mentioned earlier, I am very interested in becoming a Sports Agent. If I want to do this I would consider majoring in marketing. Marketing is a huge part of sports management. I would need to know how to manage my clients money. This would require a lot of knowledge of marketing. Also, if I needed to get a client a sponsor, I would need to know how to sell that client and advertise them. Math is not my strong suit, but I believe that marketing is much more than that and I would still be able to thrive by majoring in Marketing.
University of California Santa Cruz is in the perfect location. It is just far enough away from home so that I will feel independent, but also close enough so that I will be able to visit frequently. I love how it is in the middle of a forest but also right next to the beach. I think I would feel very at home next to the beach. Socially, I think Santa Cruz would be perfect for me. They have yoga classes and drum circles. When I visited, I fell in love. They also have vegetarian friendly food which is a very important aspect for me. Santa Cruz does not have a lot of sports. They do have some small sports but they have no football team. This is fine with me. I think I would fit in perfectly because a lot of people from my school are going to Santa Cruz. They have a very high acceptance rate so I think I would be able to get in easily. Santa Cruz is a small school so I think it would be good for me.
Potential Major: Marine Biology
“The emphasis is on basic principles that help us to understand the processes that shape life in marine environments.” Marine Biology has always interested me. In the description, it said that students usually use their degrees to become teachers, but there are other careers available. I would not mind returning to High Tech High to be a biology teacher. I am interested in this field of study and I think it would be fun to be a teacher and teach other students about marine biology. I think the process of earning this degree would be fun. It would be very hands-on, which I enjoy.
